You're 400 in with motion controller and software (ESS+Mach 4), although Linux CNC is free if you prefer that. Steppers and drives will run you 200+. That doesn't even touch the conversion hardware. Ballscrews, shaft couplings, end supports, etc.

Apologies in advance for duplicateposting this on several of my favorite forums but I m hoping someone has been through this already and has some good advice. I've also added a DRO and a home made xaxis feed. With these improvements I'm able to take decent cuts (for this size machine) even in steel/toolsteel. Example from recently: Material:, 6mm Carbide endmill, 1250rpm, 6mm width of cut, 8mm depth of cut, hand feed.
